About The SunCoast Mummers String Band

The SunCoast Mummers String Band was organized in 1977.  We have performed throughout Manatee, Charlotte and Hillsborough Counties.  We have performed at the Florida State Fair in Tampa, Fl.  We have performed on several Carnival Cruise Line ships out of Florida.  We played for the Veterans at Bay Pines Hospital in St. Petersburg and our band has had the pleasure of playing "Happy Music" in various parades for all to enjoy.  Our members consist of ages 50-93 years of age.  Our instruments include: banjos, violins, accordions, glockenspiel, saxophone, clarinet and drums.
We have 80 members - 37 musicians. 16 dancers (strutters) and 20 Marshals who perform with their brilliant colored and feathered costumes from the New Years parade in Philadelphia.  Our president is Marge Schwiezer.  Our Music Director is John Schwiezer.  We perform about 25 shows a year.  Some of the examples of our tunes are: Four Leaf Clover, Baby Face, When You're Smiling and Alabama Jubilee.  Everyone enjoys this happy music.
We are a non-profit organization.  A percentage of the proceeds we receive from our performances go to scholarships for local high school students.  These scholarships enable them to further their musical education.

Anyone interested in joining our group could attend one of our Monday night practices which are held at Sugg Middle School at 3801 59th Street West, Bradenton, Florida.  Or go the 'Book Us'page for further contact information.
